La Liga: Jonathan David makes history as Atletico thrash Osasuna 4-0

Canada international, Jonathan David made history as Atletico Madrid cruised to a 4-0 victory over Osasuna in Wednesday’s La Liga encounter at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

The summer signing opened the scoring in the 24th minute, becoming the first Atletico player in the 21st century to score in each of his opening two La Liga appearances for the club.

Atletico doubled their advantage nine minutes into the second half when Lee Kang-in converted an assist from David. Robin Le Normand then added a third in the 63rd minute before Alex Baena completed the rout eight minutes from full-time.

David was central to Atletico’s impressive display, contributing a goal and an assist as Diego Simeone’s side produced a commanding performance in front of their home supporters.

Atletico secured the victory despite the absence of Argentina forward Julian Alvarez, who was left out of the squad as he continues his recovery from a muscle injury.

The result moved Atletico to 13 points from six matches, leaving them third in the La Liga standings, two points behind leaders Barcelona and second-placed Real Madrid.

Osasuna, meanwhile, remained 13th with seven points from six games following their heavy defeat in the Spanish capital.
