Sevilla continued their impressive start to the La Liga season with a commanding 3-1 victory over 10-man Athletic Club at San Mamés on Saturday.
The visitors benefited from an early red card to Yuri Berchiche, who was sent off for bringing down Miguel Sierra just outside the penalty area.
Sevilla quickly capitalised on their numerical advantage, with Oso taking advantage of a defensive error to fire into an unguarded net and give the visitors the lead.
Athletic struggled to cope with the setback but still created opportunities before the break. Oihan Sancet came close with a shot that narrowly missed, before setting up Iñaki Williams, whose deflected effort was saved by Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Sevilla extended their advantage shortly after the restart when Isaac Romero found Chidera Ejuke on the wing.
The Nigerian winger drove into the box before producing a fine chip over goalkeeper Unai Simón to make it 2-0.
Athletic’s defensive problems continued as another mistake allowed Oso to win possession and set up Romero, who calmly found the far corner for Sevilla’s third goal.
The hosts eventually pulled one back through centre-back Aitor Paredes, who smashed the ball home after it fell to him from a corner.
However, Sevilla held on comfortably to secure their second victory in as many matches and move to the top of the early LaLiga standings.
For Athletic, the defeat extended their poor defensive record, with the club having kept just one clean sheet in their last 29 matches.
They now face a difficult trip to champions Barcelona in their next league outing.
