Athletic Bilbao halted their two-game losing streak in LaLiga after battling back to secure a 1-1 draw against Osasuna at Estadio El Sadar.
Osasuna, enjoying a strong run of form that has taken them away from the relegation zone, looked sharp in the first half. Their first real opportunity came in the 19th minute when Jon Moncayola was released in the box, but Unai Simón was equal to the effort at the near post.
The home side continued to press, and after Lucas Torró’s header was comfortably saved by Simón from a corner, Osasuna struck with a stunning goal. Rubén García unleashed a powerful long-range free-kick that left Simón helpless, sending the home fans into celebration.
Athletic struggled early but gradually found their rhythm. Gorka Guruzeta had two chances before the break, first from a cross and then from close range, but both efforts were denied by Osasuna keeper Sergio Herrera.
In the second half, Osasuna appeared more likely to double their lead, controlling possession and dictating the pace, while Athletic seemed to be chasing the game.
However, fresh substitutions after the hour mark, including a triple switch, injected life into the visitors’ attack.
In the final 20 minutes, Athletic finally found their equalizer. Robert Navarro delivered a precise pass to Guruzeta, who was left unmarked inside the box and calmly slotted the ball past Herrera to level the scores.
Osasuna struggled to respond, failing to test Simón again, while Athletic pressed for a winner but couldn’t find a breakthrough.
The draw lifts Osasuna to 12th, four points above the relegation zone, while Athletic Bilbao remain eighth, missing the chance to close in on the European places.
