La Liga: Akor Adams fires Sevilla to 3-2 win over Villarreal

A late surge led by Super Eagles forward, Akor Adams, inspired Sevilla FC to a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Villarreal CF at the Estadio de la Cerámica, strengthening their LaLiga survival hopes and extending their winning streak to three matches.

The visitors, who started the day just a point above the relegation zone, appeared set for a difficult evening against a Villarreal side coached by Marcelino and riding strong home form.

The hosts struck early in the 13th minute when Georges Mikautadze set up Gerard Moreno, who created space between defenders before calmly slotting into the bottom corner.

Villarreal doubled their advantage in the 20th minute after Nicolas Pépé threaded a pass to Alberto Moleiro, who pulled goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos off his line and squared for Mikautadze to finish at the back post.

Despite their dominance and control of possession, the hosts failed to add a third, and Sevilla FC began to grow into the contest.

In the 36th minute, Lucien Agoumé picked out Oso with a precise diagonal ball, and the midfielder drove forward before finishing superbly to reduce the deficit.

The momentum shifted further before the break when Sevilla equalised deep into stoppage time. Rubén Vargas delivered a cut-back from César Azpilicueta’s pass, allowing Kike Salas to strike a clean half-volley past the goalkeeper and restore parity.

After the restart, Villarreal looked dangerous again, with Neal Maupay forcing a routine save from Arnau Tenas, while Moleiro nearly capitalised on a loose ball inside the box but was denied by Vlachodimos.

The decisive moment arrived in the 72nd minute. Newly introduced Akor Adams pounced as Sevilla regained control in midfield through Alexis Sánchez, before Juanlu Sánchez and Djibril Sow combined to feed the striker, who drilled a powerful finish past Tenas at the near post to complete the turnaround.

Villarreal pushed late on, but Sevilla held firm, with José Ángel Carmona clearing a goal-bound effort off the line in the closing minutes to seal all three points and end their run of four consecutive away defeats.
