The Kano State Hisbah Board has apprehended seven individuals for allegedly participating in immoral activities at a joint located along Zoo Road in Kano metropolis.
Deputy Commander-General of the Board, Mujahideen Aminudeen, confirmed the arrests in a statement made available to The PUNCH on Wednesday.
He explained that the operation took place on Tuesday night following complaints from residents.
“I am happy to announce that our operatives were lucky to arrest seven pimps in a joint at Zoo Road in Kano, where young women and men gather together and engage in all sorts of immoral acts,” Aminudeen said.
He added that while some of the suspects were Kano residents, others came from Bauchi and Kogi states. “The most disturbing thing is that the oldest among them is 23 years,” he said.
Aminudeen further revealed that the operation also led to the arrest of a teenage boy and a young girl found in a compromising situation inside a tricycle.
“We also arrested another girl who returned to Kano after she was repatriated to her home town in Sokoto State,” he added.
The Deputy Commander-General noted that the total number of individuals arrested now stands at 10, who will face court proceedings after investigations.
He recalled a recent anti-trafficking operation by the Board that foiled an attempt to transport two girls from Kano to Lagos, destined for Saudi Arabia.
The victims were identified as 16-year-old Zaharau Audu from Zaria, Kaduna State, and 18-year-old Karjahar Salim from Fagge, Kano State.
Aminudeen also urged parents to remain vigilant over their children, emphasizing, “These children are a trust from Allah, and He will ask you about how you safeguarded that trust.”
This is not the first crackdown by the Hisbah Board this year. In October, over 25 individuals were arrested for allegedly organising a same-sex marriage in Hotoro, Kano metropolis.
Aminudeen said the suspects, comprising 18 males and seven females, were apprehended at the Fatima Event Centre along Hotoro bypass.
