Kano govt bans indiscriminate posters on roundabouts

The Kano State Government has issued a stern warning to political groups, businesses, religious organisations and event promoters over the indiscriminate display of posters, banners and bills on roundabouts and other public structures across the state capital.

The caution was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dahir Muhammad Hashim, who expressed concern about the growing defacement of public infrastructure.

According to the commissioner, the ministry has observed an increase in unauthorised materials pasted on bridge walls, medians, road shoulders, flyovers and landscaped areas, undermining the state’s urban renewal efforts.

“The indiscriminate posting of posters and bills not only defaces public infrastructure but also contributes to visual pollution, deterioration of facilities and obstruction of visibility along major traffic corridors,” Hashim said.

He explained that the present administration under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has embarked on landscaping and ecological enhancement of roundabouts and green corridors as part of a broader metropolitan revitalisation programme.

“As part of our commitment to climate-resilient urban planning and environmental sustainability, public spaces across Kano are being upgraded in line with global best practices,” he stated.

Hashim stressed that the use of such facilities for promotional materials without approval is strictly prohibited, adding that enforcement teams have been mobilised to ensure compliance.

“Relevant enforcement units have been directed to intensify surveillance across the metropolis.

Violators will be sanctioned in accordance with existing laws and may be required to bear the cost of restoring damaged public assets,” he warned.

The commissioner urged individuals and organisations to make use of designated advertising platforms and obtain the necessary approvals before mounting any public notices.

He also called on residents to support the government’s beautification drive by protecting public infrastructure and promoting Civic responsibility.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to maintaining a clean, orderly and environmentally sustainable Kano metropolis.
