Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Friday signed into law the bill establishing Gaya Polytechnic, marking a major step toward expanding access to technical and tertiary education in the state.

The signing ceremony, held at the Government House in Kano, was attended by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, and the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butubutu, who jointly presented the bill to the governor.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf said the new polytechnic would play a crucial role in equipping young people with practical skills needed for economic development.

“This is a significant step in our administration’s commitment to reviving and strengthening education at all levels,” the governor said.

“Gaya Polytechnic will empower our young people, enhance human capital development, and contribute to economic prosperity across the state.”

He commended the State House of Assembly for its collaboration and the smooth legislative process that led to the bill’s passage.

PUNCH Online reports that the bill was approved following a favourable submission from a 14-member committee assigned to oversee the planning and establishment of the institution.

According to Dawakin Tofa, the creation of Gaya Polytechnic aligns with the government’s broader vision to deliver accessible and affordable education while stimulating local economic growth.
