The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has stepped down from his position, bringing fresh attention to ongoing political developments in the state.
His spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, confirmed the resignation on Friday, noting that the decision had been formally communicated.
“Yes, it is true. The deputy governor has resigned from his position,” Shuaibu said, declining to disclose further details.
Although no official explanation has been provided, the resignation follows rising tensions between Gwarzo and the Kano State House of Assembly. Lawmakers had recently raised concerns over alleged misconduct and issues relating to his official duties.
Sources within the Assembly indicated that the allegations were already under review, with discussions suggesting possible disciplinary measures before his sudden exit.
The development also comes in the wake of recent political shifts involving Governor Abba Yusuf, whose reported defection to the All Progressives Congress has triggered changes within the state’s political structure.
In recent weeks, the governor has implemented a series of administrative adjustments, including the removal of the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, as part of efforts to reform the civil service.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Wada Sagagi, was relieved of his duties amid ongoing restructuring aimed at improving governance and service delivery.
