Kano begins 2026 Ramadan feeding, names committee

The Kano State Government has commenced the distribution of food items to residents under its 2026 (1447AH) Ramadan Feeding Programme, with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approving a committee to supervise the exercise.

The development was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, who confirmed that the distribution began on Thursday across designated centres in the state.

According to the statement, the feeding initiative is taking place at 115 centres spread across the eight metropolitan local government areas of Kano.

“Food distribution commenced on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 115 feeding centres across the eight Kano metropolitan LGAs,” the statement said.

The government explained that the programme is designed to support vulnerable residents and reduce the hardship associated with fasting during Ramadan.

“The initiative is aimed at supporting the less privileged and easing the burden of fasting during the holy month,” the statement added.

Governor Yusuf also tasked members of the newly inaugurated committee to discharge their duties with honesty and accountability to ensure the programme achieves its objectives.

“Members of the committee must carry out their responsibilities with dedication, transparency and fear of God to guarantee the success of the programme,” the governor was quoted as saying.
