President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, leading to the exit of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, from the Federal Executive Council.
Their replacements were announced in a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Mr. Edun has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated to the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the same ministry.
Similarly, the President has named Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, replacing Dangiwa, who has been asked to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.
Akume explained that the reshuffle is part of efforts to improve governance and enhance policy delivery.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as ensuring more impactful economic outcomes for Nigerians in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers in making the changes, noting, “The approval of this cabinet reshuffle is in line with the provisions of Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.”
The SGF further directed that all handing-over processes be concluded on or before April 23, 2026.
Akume also conveyed the President’s appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service, stating that Tinubu “thanks them for their contributions to national development and wishes them success in their future endeavours.”
He noted that the administration would continue to review and strengthen its cabinet to improve performance.
“The President assures that the process of reinvigoration within the Federal Executive Council will be continuous,” Akume added.
