Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has signed into law a bill formally establishing the state’s Hisbah Board as a statutory institution.
The move, according to the governor, is aimed at strengthening efforts to promote moral discipline, social justice, and community well-being across the state.
The signing ceremony took place on Tuesday during the weekly State Executive Council meeting at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Dutse. It follows the recent passage of the bill by the state House of Assembly.
Governor Namadi described the occasion as a “remarkable achievement,” saying it marked the end of nearly eight months of rigorous legislative and administrative work.
“Today, we have concluded a journey that started about seven to eight months ago. With the signing of this bill, the Hisbah Board now becomes a fully recognized statutory body in Jigawa State,” the governor said.
He expressed confidence that the board’s establishment would enhance efforts to instill moral order and promote justice across communities in the state.
The Hisbah Board, operating within the framework of Islamic principles, is expected to provide guidance on ethical conduct and social harmony.
Governor Namadi stressed the importance of integrity and fairness in the discharge of duties by Hisbah personnel.
“I urge all members of the Hisbah Board to carry out their responsibilities with fear of God, dedication, and a strong sense of fairness,” he said.
The governor also commended the members of the Hisbah Board Establishment Committee, praising their diligence and commitment throughout the legislative process.
“Their hard work and sacrifices were key in making this law a reality,” he added.
Highlighting the board’s core responsibilities, Governor Namadi explained that the institution would be tasked with “promoting moral guidance, ensuring social justice, and fostering community development.”
He noted that granting the board legal backing would improve its operational efficiency and broaden its reach across the state.
“With this new law, the board can now carry out its mandate with enhanced authority and legitimacy,” he said.
Governor Namadi concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to upholding values that foster societal well-being and discipline.
“The establishment of the Hisbah Board reflects our government’s resolve to create a morally guided and socially just environment for the people of Jigawa State,” he said.
