Jigawa begins 2027 Hajj registration, sets N7.5m deposit

Jigawa State has commenced preparations for the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage, with the State Pilgrims Welfare Board announcing an initial deposit of N7.5 million for prospective pilgrims and warning that registration will close in 87 days.

According to The Punch, the move follows the conclusion of the 2026 Hajj exercise and is aimed at ensuring better planning in line with directives from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and Saudi Arabian authorities, who have introduced an earlier registration timetable.

The Director General of the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Ahmed Labbo, made the announcement on Wednesday during a meeting with the board’s zonal officers representing the state’s 27 local government areas at its headquarters in Dutse.

Labbo explained that the board introduced the N7.5 million initial deposit to enable intending pilgrims to secure their slots well ahead of the pilgrimage and reduce the pressure associated with late registration.

“We have commenced the initial deposit of seven and a half million Naira for the 2027 Hajj exercise,” Labbo stated.

He stressed that intending pilgrims have limited time to complete the process, noting that Saudi authorities have set September as the deadline for Hajj registration worldwide.

“The National Hajj and Umrah authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have set a closing date for registration in September for pilgrims worldwide,” he explained, urging residents to act quickly.

The board’s chief executive instructed zonal officers to intensify public awareness campaigns across all 27 local government areas to ensure eligible residents register before the deadline.

He also urged the officials to ensure every allocation for the state is fully utilised through sustained community mobilisation.

“Be vigilant, ensure all hajj seats are filled, and actively sensitise the public about completing their registration before the deadline,” the DG charged the officers.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Labbo said early registration and payment would make it easier for the board to coordinate transportation, accommodation and feeding arrangements for pilgrims in Saudi Arabia.

“We expects intending pilgrims to register early, complete payments, and prepare ahead for a hitch-free 2027 pilgrimage”, Labbo emphasised.

Reflecting on the previous pilgrimage, he noted that delays in payments and incomplete documentation created challenges during the 2026 Hajj exercise.

“The board is determined not to repeat the same mistakes in 2027.”

Labbo also commended Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi for his continued support of the board’s activities, describing the administration’s backing as vital to the successful conduct of Hajj operations in the state.

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Governor of Jigawa State, for the continuous maximum cooperation and support the board receives during every Hajj operation,” Labbo said.
