The lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has formally rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Jibrin, a former chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, made the announcement during a political gathering in his hometown, Kofa, Bebeji Local Government Area, on Sunday. He confirmed the development in a post on his Facebook page on Monday.
According to him, the decision followed a unanimous agreement by his support base to withdraw from the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement.
He wrote, “Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in Kofa, Bebeji. The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a second term in office.”
Jibrin added that religious scholars in the constituency had offered special prayers for the president and for peace and development in the region.
“From the beginning, almost 2,000 scholars from my constituency have prayed for the President and for progress in Kiru/Bebeji, Kano, and Nigeria,” he stated.
His return comes two months after he resigned from the NNPP following his expulsion over alleged anti-party activities and default in membership dues.
The former Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups had described his suspension as “shocking and unjustified,” insisting he was not given fair hearing.
He said at the time, “The party acted without due process. I was not even allowed to defend myself, but I accepted the decision in good faith.”
Jibrin also denied defaulting in financial obligations to the NNPP, while accusing the party of failing to respect or appreciate its members.
He, however, expressed appreciation for his time in the party and urged his supporters to remain peaceful toward those who choose to stay behind.
