APC chair Yilwatda begins two-week vacation ahead of 2027 elections

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has commenced a two-week vacation outside Nigeria following what the ruling party described as an exceptionally demanding first year in office.

The Punch reported that the APC disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser to the National Chairman on Media and Information Strategy.

According to the statement, the break is intended to allow Yilwatda to rest, recharge and reflect on the responsibilities awaiting him and the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Since taking over as national chairman, Yilwatda has been involved in extensive consultations, travels and strategic engagements with various stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen and reposition the APC.

The party said he has worked closely with the National Working Committee, governors, members of the National Assembly, state party structures, elected officials and other stakeholders.

The statement listed the successful organisation and conclusion of the APC National Convention, the strengthening of internal party structures and the conduct of primary elections at various levels among the achievements recorded under Yilwatda’s leadership.

“These achievements, coming within a relatively short period, have further consolidated the APC’s position as Nigeria’s leading political party and one of Africa’s largest and most formidable political organisations,” the statement said.

The APC clarified that the chairman’s vacation should not be regarded as a withdrawal from his responsibilities, describing it instead as “an opportunity to step back briefly from the intensity of day-to-day activities, recharge and reflect on the enormous responsibilities ahead.”

The party said Yilwatda would also use the period to further develop his strategic plans ahead of the 2027 elections, which it described as a crucial moment for the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

He is also expected to review the next phase of the party’s development and finalise preparations for an upcoming National Working Committee retreat.

The retreat is expected to enable members of the NWC to assess the party’s progress, address emerging challenges and formulate strategies for the months leading to the 2027 electoral season.

According to the APC, the meeting will also strengthen coordination within the NWC and enhance the party’s preparedness for the forthcoming elections.

The ruling party further assured that Yilwatda’s absence from the country would not disrupt its operations, as the NWC would continue to carry out its duties in accordance with the party’s constitution and established procedures.

“The APC National Chairman remains fully committed to the party and its objectives,” the statement said.

Yilwatda is expected to return to Nigeria after the two-week break and resume his official duties.
