Iran kicked off their World Cup preparations with a 3-1 comeback win over Gambia in a friendly match played in Antalya, Turkey, on Friday.
The Iranian side went into half-time trailing 1-0 but responded strongly after the break, scoring three goals within 20 minutes to secure victory. One of the goals came from Olympiacos striker Mehdi Taremi.
The team is still awaiting visa clearance to enter the United States, where they are scheduled to play their World Cup group-stage matches.
Amid ongoing political tensions between Iran and the United States linked to the conflict in the Middle East, Iran have reportedly shifted their base to Mexico for their preparations.
Iran will continue their build-up with another friendly against Mali in Antalya next Thursday before heading into the tournament.
They begin their World Cup campaign on June 16 against New Zealand in Los Angeles, followed by group matches against Belgium in Los Angeles and Egypt in Seattle.
