Iran on Wednesday carried out the execution of a man convicted of alleged links to Israel’s intelligence service, Mossad, according to the country’s judiciary.
According to wionews, The execution comes amid heightened tensions following months of conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
The judiciary identified the man as Mehdi Farid, stating that he was put to death after being found guilty of espionage-related offences. The case was announced through the judiciary’s official Mizan Online website.
The statement stated, “Mehdi Farid… was hanged this morning for extensive cooperation with the terrorist spy service Mossad after the case was examined and the final verdict was approved.”
Authorities did not disclose details about when he was arrested or the exact timeline of his trial proceedings.
However, Iranian courts reportedly convicted him on charges linked to intelligence cooperation and espionage for Israel, which Tehran refers to as the “Zionist regime,” under the capital offence described as “corruption on earth.”
In recent weeks, Iran has intensified executions of individuals it says are connected to Israel and the United States, particularly in the context of internal unrest and regional tensions.
Iranian authorities have claimed that some of these cases are tied to broader efforts to destabilise the country, including alleged links to foreign intelligence agencies.
The latest execution comes against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities between Iran, Israel, and the United States since February 28, although a ceasefire has reportedly been in place since April 8, according to available reports.
