Imo gives 14-day deadline for removal of illegal suggestions under power lines

The Imo State Government has directed owners of structures illegally erected beneath a 333KVA national grid transmission line in parts of Owerri North Local Government Area to remove them within 14 days or face demolition.

The order was made public in a notice issued by the Owerri Capital Development Authority and shared by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Creative and Electronic Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu.

The affected areas include Ishiuzo Egbu/Umuawaka and Awaka, along the transmission corridor linking the Alaoji and Egbu transmission stations.

In the announcement, the government warned that non-compliance would attract strict enforcement measures.

“The Imo State Government hereby gives notice to all persons who have built illegally under the reserved 333KVA national grid line to remove such structures within 14 days from the date of this publication,” the notice stated.

It added, “At the expiration of this period, the state will commence demolition of the affected buildings, and the cost of the exercise shall be borne by the owners.”

The state government said the action was necessary to enforce development regulations and protect public safety.

“The Imo State Government remains committed to upholding the law, ensuring public safety, and promoting orderly development,” the statement said.
