I fought cultism, cast out demon from age 17, says Edo gov

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has said his efforts to combat insecurity and cultism in the state are informed by experiences dating back to his teenage years.

Okpebholo spoke while reflecting on the importance of young people remaining committed to God, recalling his involvement in spiritual activities when he was about 17 or 18 years old.

According to the governor, his engagement in efforts against insecurity, particularly cult-related activities, was not something he recently took up, noting that he had been involved in such activities for years.

“When I see young ones standing in the presence of God, I remember at age 17–18, I was already casting out demons. So, fighting insecurity, most especially cultism, is not a new thing to me. It’s something that has been happening.”

Okpebholo’s remarks come as his administration continues to focus on addressing insecurity and cult-related activities in Edo State.

The governor also used the occasion to highlight the importance of young people embracing positive values and maintaining a strong connection with God.

His comments linked his present concerns about insecurity and cultism to his early experiences, portraying the fight against such activities as one he has been familiar with for decades.
