Hamzat submits APC nomination forms for 2027 Lagos gov race

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has formally submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Hamzat disclosed the development on Thursday through his official X account, where he said his aspiration was rooted in service, responsibility and a commitment to improving the lives of Lagos residents.

“Today, I submitted my expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 gubernatorial election. This journey is about service, responsibility, and building a Lagos that works better for every family, every business and every person that calls this state home,” he stated.

The deputy governor, who has served alongside Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu since 2019, noted that although the administration had made progress, more work still needed to be done in the state.

“We have made progress together but there is still more to do. I am stepping forward with experience, purpose and a deep belief in the future of our state. The journey to a greater Lagos continues,” Hamzat added.

His formal submission comes amid growing support for his governorship ambition within the ruling APC in Lagos.

The Governance Advisory Council, regarded as the highest decision-making organ of the party in the state, had earlier endorsed Hamzat as the APC’s consensus candidate after a meeting attended by all 21 members.

President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu have also publicly backed his governorship bid ahead of the 2027 election.
