Gunmen suspected to be bandits have launched coordinated attacks across several communities in the Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, abducting scores of women and men in overnight raids.
The incidents, which targeted villages such as ‘Yan Chibi, Masaurari, and Birisawa, have plunged residents into fear and uncertainty.
Witnesses reported that the assailants rode into the communities on more than 30 motorcycles, moving swiftly as they kidnapped young and married women.
In Masaurari, a settlement under ‘Yan Kamaye village, the attackers seized eight women and two men. Over in Birisawa, located within the ‘Yan Chibi axis, five women were taken.
Another raid in Sundu led to the abduction of three women, although two later escaped from captivity.
A resident of Tsanyawa LGA told The Historica Nigeria online newspaper that the bandits went “from house to house, seizing young women and married women,” a situation that has heightened panic among locals.
Many male residents are reportedly sleeping outdoors in an attempt to avoid being captured.
It is believed that the attackers gained access to Tsanyawa through routes connecting ‘Yan Chibi to ‘Yar Gajam in Musawa Local Government Area of neighbouring Katsina State before spreading into nearby Kano villages.
While security operatives have been notified, authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the latest assaults.
More updates are expected as search operations intensify and efforts continue toward securing the freedom of the abducted victims.
