The Federal Government has launched a fresh recruitment exercise to appoint five new permanent secretaries, with three expected to serve in recently established ministries.
In a circular issued by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, eligible directors in the mainstream Federal Civil Service have been invited to apply.
The document, signed by the Head of Service, Dr. Didi Walson-Jack, noted that the move follows the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“These appointments are intended to fill existing and anticipated vacancies in Imo State and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as three newly created rotational zonal positions resulting from the establishment of additional ministries,” the memo stated.
The statement explained that the zonal vacancies will initially be allocated to candidates from the North-Central, North-East, and South-East geopolitical zones, in line with alphabetical order for equitable representation.
To qualify, applicants must be substantive directors on Grade Level 17, verified on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System portal, and have served for a minimum of two years as directors.
They must not be due for retirement before December 31, 2026, and must present proof of indigeneship of the state where the vacancy exists.
The circular also emphasized that female civil servants can only claim indigeneship through their state of origin, not by marriage, and warned that any applicant with a pending disciplinary matter will be disqualified.
“Serving permanent secretaries are to confirm that applicants under their supervision have no pending disciplinary issues and meet all eligibility requirements,” it read.
Applicants are required to submit two copies of their curriculum vitae, relevant supporting documents, and both hard and soft copies of a brief profile using the specified format.
All submissions must reach the Career Management Office at the Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja, by 4:00 p.m. on August 12, 2025.
Since assuming office, President Tinubu has appointed at least 26 permanent secretaries, including eight each in November 2023 and June 2024, another eight in December 2024, and two more in March 2025.
