A former member of the House of Representatives, Israel Sunny-Goli, has accused some politicians who lost the 2023 governorship election in Bayelsa State of attempting to use a hunger protest to pitch the people against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.
Sunny-Goli, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, on Wednesday specifically criticized his former ally, ex-Governor Timipre Sylva, for denying involvement in the planned protest despite allegedly being linked to it, according to Daily Trust.
Sunny-Goli described Sylva’s statement as “indecorous” and “desperate,” accusing him of attempting to destabilize the state and stir up opposition.
He praised Minister of Petroleum Resources Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri as the best minister from Bayelsa State to date.
However, Sylva had denied knowing Ebideke Atuwo, an associate allegedly linked to the protest, and tried to connect him to Minister of Petroleum Resources (oil) Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri.
Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Police Command has warned against any breakdown of law and order during the protest, stating that they will provide robust security coverage and urging organizers and protesters to conduct the protest peacefully.
The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities and warned that anyone caught engaging in violent or criminal activities during the protest will face the full wrath of the law.
