Ex-Arsenal striker Billy Vigar in induced coma after brain injury

Chichester City forward and former Arsenal academy graduate, Billy Vigar, is in an induced coma after sustaining what the club described as “a significant brain injury” during a league fixture.

The 21-year-old striker, who hails from Worthing, was injured in Saturday’s Isthmian League Premier Division clash against Wingate & Finchley, according to a report by the BBC.

Vigar, who came through Arsenal’s youth system, has also featured for Derby County, Hastings FC, and Eastbourne Borough. While it is believed the injury may have occurred when he collided with a concrete wall, the club has yet to officially confirm the cause.

Chichester City released a statement saying: “Billy received a significant brain injury and is currently in an induced coma in intensive care receiving the best possible treatment.

“It is too early to say what the outcome will be and even if things go well, there will be a long road to recovery.”
