Man United rescue point at Fulham after Martinez own goal
Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday, extending their winless run in the Premier League to three matches.
The visitors fell behind in bizarre circumstances after Lisandro Martinez was credited with an own goal in the 63rd minute.
Fulham capitalised on a defensive mix-up involving United goalkeeper Senne Lammens and Martinez.
Calvin Bassey drove into the United box after dispossessing Matheus Cunha, but his effort was straight at Lammens.
The goalkeeper attempted to clear the ball with his leg, only for Martinez’s attempted pass back to him to squirm into the net.
United had opportunities to take the lead before the opener, with Bruno Fernandes hitting the post after Cunha created the opening.
Lammens was also called into action several times to keep Michael Carrick’s side in the contest.
Fulham threatened to double their advantage, but United goalkeeper Bernd Leno produced important saves to deny Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as the hosts pushed for a first Premier League victory under Alvaro Arbeloa.
However, United eventually found an equaliser in the 89th minute when Cunha’s effort took a significant deflection off David Affengruber and wrong-footed Leno.
The result leaves United still searching for a league victory after three consecutive matches, while Fulham were denied what would have been Arbeloa’s first Premier League win.
