Tottenham staged a thrilling second-half comeback to snatch a 2-2 draw against Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a result that will delight title rivals Arsenal.
City looked firmly in control after a blistering first half, with Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo giving Pep Guardiola’s men a comfortable two-goal lead.
Spurs, booed off at half-time, seemed on course for a heavy defeat.
However, the tide turned early in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Marc Guéhi’s own goal, following a clever pass from Xavi Simons to Dominic Solanke—gave Spurs a lifeline.
Just 20 minutes later, Solanke produced a moment of magic, flicking in a back-heel finish over Gianluigi Donnarumma to level the scores at 2-2, sending the home crowd into raptures.
Despite City pushing for a late winner, Tottenham’s defense held firm, with Pape Sarr making crucial interventions, and the points were shared.
The draw leaves Manchester City six points behind league leaders Arsenal, who had crushed Leeds 4-0 the day before.
The result was a morale boost for Spurs manager Thomas Frank, who has struggled to win over the fanbase this season.
With just two wins in 15 league games, this comeback prevented another damaging home defeat.
Tottenham’s challenges were clear from the outset. With 11 players unavailable, including captain Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin made his first start in a year after recovering from a knee injury.
Despite his presence, City took the lead within 11 minutes when Cherki capitalized on a mistake by Dragusin to curl home.
City nearly doubled their lead minutes later as Erling Haaland’s lob narrowly went over the bar.
Spurs looked shaky, but Conor Gallagher and Destiny Udogie began to test the City defense. Yet, before halftime, Semenyo converted Bernardo Silva’s setup to make it 2-0, deepening Tottenham’s woes.
The second half saw a more aggressive Spurs side, operating in a 4-2-3-1 formation. The game’s first spark came via Simons’ exquisite pass to Solanke, forcing the own goal.
Momentum swung completely in Tottenham’s favor with Frank introducing Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel, and Solanke’s back-heel equalizer exemplified their resurgence.
Spurs pressed for a winner, with Simons and Odobert causing headaches for the City defense, but Donnarumma made crucial saves.
City threatened late, with Tijjani Reijnders missing two chances, and Sarr denying efforts from Guéhi and Haaland, ensuring a dramatic draw.
While Spurs can take heart from the fightback, City will rue dropped points as Arsenal continues to build their advantage at the top of the Premier League.
