Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, has hinted that new signings Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike could both feature when his side face Everton in Saturday’s Premier League showdown.
Isak, who joined the Reds from Newcastle United in a record-breaking Deadline Day transfer, is in line to partner Ekitike, 23, following the French forward’s £79 million move from Eintracht Frankfurt earlier in the summer.
Speaking to TribalFootball, Slot explained that while Liverpool’s traditional structure revolves around a 4-3-3, the form and fitness of his players could influence a tactical switch.
“If they’re both at their peak, then of course you think about starting them together,” the Dutch coach said. “We normally play 4-3-3, but we’ve often ended games with two strikers.
“Hugo is also capable of operating from the left, though in a different way compared to Cody (Gakpo) or Rio (Ngumoha). That versatility gives us options—but only if everyone stays fit. Otherwise, we may even turn to a 4-4-2.”
Liverpool head into the Merseyside derby at the summit of the Premier League, boasting a perfect record of 12 points from four matches.
A victory at Anfield would see them win their opening five league games for only the third time in club history.
