Liverpool honour late Jota with biography, fund grassroots football

Liverpool have released a biography celebrating the life and legacy of former forward Diogo Jota, with proceeds from the publication set to support a grassroots football programme being established in his honour through the LFC Foundation.

Titled Forever in Our Hearts, the book was written by Portuguese author and former professional footballer José Delgado and published by Reach Sport.

The club announced its release in a post on its X account on Thursday.

The biography traces Jota’s journey from his early life in Portugal to his rise to prominence as one of his generation’s admired footballers and a cherished member of the Liverpool squad.

It features accounts from family members, friends, former teammates and coaches who knew the late forward personally.

Among the contributors are his wife, Rute, his parents, Isabel and Joaquim, and former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, alongside more than 90 others who shared memories of the footballer.

Through their recollections, the publication highlights Jota’s talent, determination, humility and personal relationships, offering readers a deeper understanding of the man behind his achievements on the pitch.

The book also explores the close relationship between Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, while celebrating the influence both brothers had on their teammates, supporters and the wider football community.

During his career, Jota won the Premier League with Liverpool and the UEFA Nations League with Portugal, earning widespread recognition for his contributions to both club and country.

However, the biography also recounts the tragic deaths of Jota and André in July 2025, shortly after Jota married his childhood sweetheart, Rute.

Their deaths sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes from across the football world.

Speaking about the project, Delgado said the book began as an opportunity to preserve Jota’s memory during a period of profound sadness.

“My commitment throughout was to tell his story with care, honesty and respect for Diogo, André, and the family and friends who loved them,” he said.

The author said the willingness of those close to the brothers to share their memories helped capture their personalities and demonstrate the depth of affection they inspired.

Delgado also reflected on Jota’s special connection with Liverpool, noting that his research revealed how much those who knew the forward valued his character, commitment and humility, beyond his abilities as a footballer.

He expressed hope that Forever in Our Hearts would stand as a fitting tribute to Jota’s life while inspiring future generations.

The biography is available through official Liverpool FC stores and online.

According to the club, all profits from the book will go towards supporting the grassroots football initiative being developed in Jota’s name.

The release forms part of Liverpool’s efforts to preserve the brothers’ legacy.

Earlier in 2026, the club unveiled a permanent memorial outside Anfield, giving supporters a dedicated place to pay their respects and remember their impact on the game.

Through the book and the planned grassroots programme, Liverpool hopes to ensure that Jota’s influence continues beyond his playing career by creating opportunities for young people to participate in the sport he loved.
