EPL: Šeško’s late winner gives Man Utd edge over Fulham

Manchester United staged a dramatic late comeback to defeat Fulham 3–2 at Old Trafford, surviving a stunning fightback before Benjamin Šeško struck deep into stoppage time to seal victory.

United looked to be cruising after first-half and early second-half goals from Casemiro and Matheus Cunha put them two goals clear.

However, Fulham stunned the home crowd with two late strikes through Raúl Jiménez and Kevin, threatening to derail Michael Carrick’s perfect start as interim manager.

With the clock ticking down and Old Trafford holding its breath, Šeško restored United’s lead moments later, latching onto a Bruno Fernandes delivery before rifling home the winner to spark wild celebrations.

The result lifts the Red Devils back into fourth place in the Premier League, keeping pace with top-four rivals Chelsea and Liverpool, who also won on Saturday.

It also marked Carrick’s third consecutive win since taking charge, following eye-catching victories over Manchester City and Arsenal after replacing Ruben Amorim.

United opened the scoring in the 19th minute after VAR downgraded a Fulham penalty to a free-kick. Fernandes swung the ball to the far post, where Casemiro rose highest to power a header into the corner.

Fulham enjoyed periods of possession but struggled to convert pressure into goals, with Senne Lammens denying Harry Wilson from a free-kick and blocking Joachim Andersen at close range.

The hosts doubled their advantage on 56 minutes with a swift counter-attack, as Casemiro slipped Cunha through and the forward thundered a first-time finish into the roof of the net beyond Bernd Leno.

Fulham thought they had pulled one back soon after when Jorge Cuenca tapped in from close range, but a prolonged VAR review ruled the goal out for a marginal offside.

Šeško came close to killing the game off shortly after his introduction, crashing a header against the woodwork before sending a follow-up over the bar.

Fulham refused to fold and finally broke through late on when Harry Maguire brought down Jiménez in the box.

The striker confidently dispatched the resulting penalty into the top corner to reduce the deficit.

Moments later, Kevin completed the comeback, cutting inside and curling a superb equaliser past Lammens to stun Old Trafford and leave Carrick facing his first setback.

But the drama was not over. Fernandes slid a teasing ball across the area in stoppage time, and Šeško showed composure to control and fire home, sealing a thrilling win in what many described as a reminder of “old-style Manchester United.”
