EPL: Reed’s late goal earns Fulham draw against Liverpool

Fulham snatched a dramatic late point against Liverpool, rescuing a 2-2 draw in a thrilling encounter at Craven Cottage.

Cody Gakpo looked to have secured victory for the Reds in the 94th minute, only for Harrison Reed to produce a stunning response.

The midfielder struck from nearly 30 yards, marking his first Premier League goal in almost three years, to ensure Fulham shared the spoils in spectacular fashion.

The match began with Fulham taking the lead in the 17th minute. Raul Jimenez’s clever touch set up Harry Wilson, whose low strike found the bottom corner, confirmed after a VAR review

. Liverpool responded after the break, but their attempts were repeatedly thwarted. Alexis Mac Allister’s header hit the crossbar, and a Gakpo goal was ruled out for offside.

The visitors finally drew level in the 57th minute when Florian Wirtz converted Conor Bradley’s through ball, a goal that also required VAR confirmation after initially being disallowed.

Liverpool appeared poised to snatch all three points when Gakpo turned in Jeremie Frimpong’s deep cross late in the game. However, Reed’s remarkable long-range effort three minutes later stunned both the visitors and the home crowd, securing an unlikely point for Fulham.

The draw extends Liverpool’s recent run of draws, with four from their last seven Premier League games—matching the number they managed in their previous 31 matches (18 wins, 9 losses).

Fulham manager Arne Slot remains without a top-flight win in three meetings with the Cottagers (D2 L1), one of only two teams he has faced more than twice without triumphing, the other being Nottingham Forest.

Wirtz has enjoyed a purple patch, contributing two goals and an assist in his last four league appearances after a quiet first 15 games.

Meanwhile, Wilson has been a key figure for Fulham since November, with nine goal involvements (five goals, four assists), second only to Erling Haaland in the Premier League over that period.

Reed’s last-gasp strike also ended a long wait for him personally, coming 995 days after his previous league goal against Everton in April 2023.
