EPL: Rayan’s debut goal earns Bournemouth draw against Villa

Rayan’s first goal in English football helped Bournemouth earn a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa in a lively encounter at the Vitality Stadium.

Morgan Rogers gave Villa an early lead in the 22nd minute, catching the hosts off guard. Despite dominating possession in the first half, with 13 shots to Villa’s two—five on target, Bournemouth struggled to convert their chances.

The breakthrough for the Cherries came ten minutes into the second half when Rayan, who had earlier rattled the crossbar, finally opened his account.

Calmly collecting James Hill’s delivery near the right touchline, the 19-year-old weaved past defenders and slotted past Emiliano Martínez from close range.

Villa goalkeeper Martínez was a standout for the visitors, producing seven crucial saves across both halves. His first-half heroics included denying Junior Kroupi and Evanilson in quick succession, keeping Bournemouth from equalising despite a series of dangerous attacks.

Bournemouth’s early chances saw Alex Scott and Kroupi testing Villa’s defense, with Onana and Martinez stepping up to prevent an opener.

Villa had been largely subdued until Rogers, cleverly set up by Jadon Sancho, converted their rare opportunity, firing past Djordje Petrovic at his near post.

The second half saw both sides push for the winner. Kroupi’s goal was chalked off for offside, and a potential Bournemouth penalty was overturned by VAR after Ezri Konsa fouled Scott outside the box.

Martinez continued to shine, tipping Ryan Christie’s 79th-minute effort over the bar and denying Bournemouth a late winner in the 88th minute.

The result leaves both teams sharing the points, with Bournemouth salvaging a hard-fought draw thanks to Rayan’s breakthrough strike.
