EPL: Nottingham Forest edge Aston Villa 2-1, extend Emery woes

Nottingham Forest secured their first Premier League win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday, leaving Unai Emery’s side still searching for their first league victory.

Forest took the lead through Liam Delap, who scored his first goal for the club with a long-range effort.

The visitors then held firm as Villa struggled to create clear opportunities.

Emery responded by introducing new signings Johan Manzambi and Ibrahim Mbaye in an attempt to inject more energy into his side.

The changes had the desired effect as Alysson scored his first goal for Villa to restore parity.

The equaliser appeared to shift the momentum in Villa’s favour, with the hosts pushing for a winner.

However, their task became more difficult when Ian Maatsen was forced off with an injury with 10 minutes remaining.

Having already made all their substitutions, Villa were reduced to 10 men for the closing stages of the encounter.

Forest capitalised on the numerical advantage and regained the lead with just three minutes remaining.

Igor Jesus found the decisive finish to seal a 2-1 victory and spark celebrations among the travelling Forest supporters.

The result also extended Oliver Glasner’s impressive record against Emery, with the Nottingham Forest boss now having avoided defeat against the Spaniard in all eight of their meetings.
