Liverpool were forced to settle for a point after twice coming from behind to draw 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday.
The visitors stunned the home crowd in the 24th minute when Dan Ndoye finished off a counter-attack to give Forest a deserved lead.
Liverpool struggled to break down Forest’s disciplined defensive setup and thought they had levelled before half-time when Florian Wirtz found the net.
However, the goal was ruled out following a VAR review, with Jeremie Frimpong adjudged to have been marginally offside in the build-up.
The hosts eventually got their equaliser shortly after the hour mark. Cody Gakpo created space in the box before sending the ball across goal for Alexander Isak, who made no mistake from close range.
Forest regained the lead 10 minutes later after Neco Williams was brought down inside the Liverpool penalty area by goalkeeper Alisson.
Morgan Gibbs-White stepped up to take the resulting penalty and confidently sent Alisson the wrong way to restore Forest’s advantage.
Liverpool, however, refused to give up and found a spectacular equaliser in the 82nd minute.
Wirtz picked out Victor Munoz inside the right channel, and the substitute produced a brilliant piece of individual skill before unleashing a powerful effort that flew past Matz Sels and crashed in off the underside of the crossbar.
Liverpool pushed hard for a winner in the closing stages, dominating possession as Forest defended deep and attempted to protect their point.
Despite their late pressure, the Reds could not find a third goal, leaving both sides with a share of the spoils.
For Liverpool, the draw will feel like two points dropped at home, while Forest can take plenty of encouragement from their performance and narrow escape with a valuable point at Anfield.
