Liverpool’s push for another Premier League victory suffered a setback on Saturday as Fulham held them to a goalless draw at Anfield.
Fulham, managed by former Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa, secured their first point of the season after producing a disciplined display against the hosts.
Liverpool struggled to create clear-cut opportunities despite starting with their three high-profile attacking signings, Bradley Barcola, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.
The visitors were the more impressive side for much of the encounter, with Liverpool only applying sustained pressure during the closing stages as they searched for a winning goal.
Arbeloa’s side could even feel disappointed not to have taken all three points after their encouraging performance, which suggested their first league victory of the campaign may not be far away.
The result means Liverpool remain unbeaten under manager Andoni Iraola, although the Reds boss will have plenty to address after his side failed to find the breakthrough at home.
Liverpool at least kept a clean sheet, but Fulham’s display ensured they left Anfield with a valuable point from a match in which the hosts struggled to impose themselves.
