EPL: Leeds crush Burnley 3-1 to boost survival hopes

Leeds United responded strongly to their Wembley setback with a convincing 3-1 victory over already-relegated Burnley at Elland Road, boosting their hopes of Premier League survival.

Manager Daniel Farke saw his side put last weekend’s FA Cup semifinal loss to Chelsea behind them in style, securing a third win in four league matches.

Leeds made an early breakthrough in the eighth minute when Anton Stach unleashed a powerful long-range strike that beat goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka.

The early goal settled the hosts, who dominated possession and kept Burnley pinned back for much of the first half.

Despite their relegation being confirmed after defeat to Manchester City, Burnley showed resilience before the break, absorbing pressure and limiting further damage.

However, Leeds took full control early in the second half. A slick attacking move involving Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jayden Bogle set up Noah Okafor, who volleyed home in the 52nd minute.

Just four minutes later, Calvert-Lewin capitalised on a rebound to add a third and effectively seal the win.

Burnley managed a response in the 71st minute when Loum Tchaouna finished neatly after a well-timed pass from Jaidon Anthony, but it proved to be only a consolation.

The visitors, who recently parted ways with manager Scott Parker, slumped to a fifth consecutive league defeat.

The win lifts Leeds to 14th in the table, nine points clear of the relegation zone, with growing belief among supporters that survival is within reach.
