EPL: Hull City edge Coventry 1-0 for second straight win

Hull City made it two Premier League wins from two after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Coventry City on Saturday.

Liam Millar came off the bench to score the decisive goal eight minutes from time, finishing a swift counter-attack to hand Hull all three points at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The result extends Hull’s impressive start to their first Premier League campaign after last season’s Championship play-off success.

Sergej Jakirovic’s side had opened the season with a shock victory over Manchester United and followed it up with another hard-fought win.

Coventry, who were promoted as Championship champions last season, controlled large spells of the encounter but failed to make their possession count in the final third.

Their closest opportunity came late in the first half when the ball struck Taiwo Awoniyi at the back post, forcing Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis into a sharp save.

Hull also threatened early on, with Nobel Mendy testing Coventry with a fierce half-volley, but neither side could break the deadlock before the interval.

With the game appearing destined for a draw, Millar delivered the decisive moment in the 82nd minute, calmly converting Hull’s counter-attacking move to seal another valuable victory.

The defeat was a disappointing result for Coventry in their first-ever Premier League fixture at the CBS Arena and their first top-flight meeting with Hull.
