EPL: Chelsea beat Burnley 2-0 to close gap on leaders Arsenal

Chelsea strengthened their Premier League title push on Saturday with a composed 2-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor, closing the gap on league leaders Arsenal to just three points.

The Blues, who have grown increasingly confident under manager Enzo Maresca, delivered another assured performance to extend their winning streak.

Although Chelsea were slow to settle in the opening stages, they gradually took control of the contest.

Their patience paid off in the 37th minute when Pedro Neto drifted into space at the far post, calmly steering home the opener after a well-worked attacking move. From that moment, the visitors dictated the tempo and rarely looked troubled.

Burnley attempted to raise their intensity after the break, pushing forward in search of a way back into the match.

However, despite enjoying brief spells of possession, the hosts failed to carve out any meaningful chances.

Chelsea’s defensive structure, marshalled superbly by their centre-backs, kept the Clarets comfortably at bay.

As the clock ticked toward full time, Chelsea pressed for a second goal to kill off the contest.

Their persistence was rewarded when Enzo Fernández unleashed a powerful strike late in the game, doubling the lead and effectively sealing the result.

It was a fitting finish for a team that had controlled proceedings throughout.

The victory marks Chelsea’s third consecutive league win and lifts them to second place with 23 points.

They now sit just behind Arsenal, who face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in a crucial North London derby.

Manchester City, currently on 22 points, still have the opportunity to reclaim second later in the day when they take on Newcastle United.
