EPL: Burnley hold 10-man Chelsea to 1-1 draw

Chelsea suffered a late blow as Burnley snatched a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, leaving the Blues with just a point after a dramatic finish.

Despite playing with ten men following a second-half red card, Chelsea had taken an early lead but were unable to hold on, allowing Liam Rosenior’s side to climb back into the Premier League’s top four on goal difference ahead of Manchester United.

The visitors’ resistance was tested almost immediately. Just four minutes in, Chelsea moved swiftly from defense to attack, with Moises Caicedo unlocking the Burnley backline for Pedro Neto, whose low cross found Joao Pedro, who bundled the ball over the line to give the hosts the lead.

Chelsea came close to extending their advantage before halftime. Cole Palmer capitalized on a loose ball from Kyle Walker and surged towards goal, exploiting Burnley’s commitment forward for a set piece.

Yet, his low effort was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, leaving the score 1-0 at the break.

The second half threatened to drift without incident, but tensions flared in the 70th minute when Wesley Fofana received a second yellow for a foul on James Ward-Prowse, reducing Chelsea to ten men.

It proved costly. In stoppage time, Burnley capitalized on their final set-piece chance. Ward-Prowse delivered a precise corner, and Zian Flemming, unmarked, powered a header into the far corner to level the match in the third minute of added time.

Chelsea had one last opportunity to snatch victory. Jacob Bruun Larsen met another Ward-Prowse corner, but his header skimmed just over the crossbar, and the match ended in a dramatic draw, leaving both teams with a shared point.
