EPL: Burnley, Bournemouth play goalless draw

Burnley and Bournemouth shared the spoils in a dull 0–0 draw at Turf Moor, a result that offered little encouragement for either side’s ambitions in the Premier League.

The point helped Burnley secure only their fourth league clean sheet of the season, but the Clarets remain eight points from safety with just eight matches left to play.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth stretched their unbeaten run to 10 games, although they will view the stalemate as a missed opportunity in their push for a European place.

Both sides came close to scoring, striking the woodwork once each, while an early effort from Evanilson was dramatically cleared off the line.

However, neither team produced enough quality in front of goal to claim all three points.

Burnley were boosted by the return of joint top scorer Zian Flemming from injury, while Bournemouth were without Tyler Adams after he experienced discomfort during training.

The hosts appeared eager to respond after the controversy of their 4-3 defeat to Brentford two weeks earlier, when they fought back from three goals down only to see a late equaliser ruled out by VAR.

A disappointing loss to Everton followed, but Burnley started brightly here.

Jaidon Anthony cut inside from the left early on but dragged his shot wide of the near post.

Bournemouth soon threatened themselves when Junior Kroupi slipped a pass through for Evanilson. Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka and defender Maxime Estève briefly collided as they tried to intervene, forcing Evanilson wide before Bashir Humphreys cleared his effort off the line.

Flemming later tested Djordje Petrovic with a powerful shot from the right flank, while Marcus Tavernier’s ambitious attempt at the other end was comfortably gathered by Dúbravka.

After weathering early Bournemouth pressure, Burnley began to dominate the closing stages of the first half and were unlucky not to go ahead before the interval.

Anthony forced a full-stretch save from Petrovic, and Flemming nearly created a chance for Lyle Foster after battling through the defence, though his pass was slightly behind the striker. Humphreys also saw a goal-bound effort deflected over.

Burnley came closest to breaking the deadlock three minutes before the break when Anthony met a James Ward-Prowse corner at the far post but rattled the crossbar.

Anthony remained a constant threat after the restart but was denied by a superb block from Adam Smith. Bournemouth responded swiftly, with Tavernier curling a shot that struck the outside of the post, appearing to beat Dúbravka.

Flemming later headed over for Burnley as the game continued to drift without a breakthrough.

Tempers flared late on when Hannibal Mejbri slid into Adrien Truffert, leaving the Bournemouth defender in pain. The visitors called for a red card, but referee Peter Bankes opted for a yellow.

Bournemouth also appealed for a penalty after Evanilson went down between two Burnley defenders, but the referee waved play on.

Despite eight minutes of stoppage time and late pressure from the visitors, neither side could find the decisive moment, and the match ended goalless.
