Outgoing Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola began his farewell run on a high, guiding his side to a gritty 2-1 victory over Newcastle United and stretching their unbeaten Premier League streak to 13 matches (six wins, seven draws).
Newcastle, missing injured top scorer Anthony Gordon, made a lively start, with Harvey Barnes going close early on.
However, Bournemouth soon grew into the contest, using an aggressive press to disrupt the hosts and take control.
Their breakthrough arrived in the 32nd minute. After a dry spell in front of goal, Rayan turned provider, surging past Lewis Hall before squaring for Marcus Tavernier, who calmly finished from close range.
The visitors nearly doubled their lead shortly after, but Evanilson failed to properly connect with Alex Scott’s cut-back, letting Newcastle off the hook.
Frustration began to creep in for the home fans, and despite a near equaliser, when Dorde Petrovic had to react sharply to prevent an own goal, boos echoed around the stadium at half-time.
Eddie Howe responded by introducing Kieran Trippier early in the second half, as Newcastle searched for a way back.
The game remained tightly contested until the return of captain Bruno Guimaraes, whose presence lifted the home side.
That momentum paid off in the 66th minute when William Osula latched onto a fortunate touch from Evanilson, beat the Bournemouth defence, and finished calmly after a VAR check confirmed he was onside.
But just as Newcastle looked set to push on, Bournemouth delivered the decisive blow late on.
With five minutes remaining, Tavernier floated a ball into the box, Evanilson nodded it down under pressure, and Adrien Truffert converted from close range to seal the win.
The result deepens Newcastle’s struggles at home, marking their fifth defeat in six league games on their own turf and leaving them with just one win in their last seven matches across all competitions.
For Bournemouth, the victory lifts them to eighth place and strengthens their European hopes, while also setting a new club record of eight consecutive away league games without defeat (four wins, four draws).
