Ekiti poll: Isaac Fayose alleges non- Ekiti indigenes received ₦20,000 to vote with uncollected PVCs

Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose has alleged that uncollected Permanent Voter Cards in Ekiti State were distributed to non-indigenes who were allegedly paid ₦20,000 each to participate in Saturday’s governorship election.

Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, made the allegation in a video circulated on social media during the June 20, 2026 governorship election.

According to him, the number of uncollected PVCs in the state was far higher than the figure released by the Independent National Electoral Commission and the cards were allegedly used to boost votes in selected areas.

“They said people who did not collect their voter cards were only 30,000, but they are more than that. They are over 400,000. They collected the abandoned cards and allegedly gave them to non-indigenes from the state, paying them ₦20,000 each to vote,” Fayose claimed.

He further alleged that the electoral database had been manipulated to increase voting strength in locations where the cards were purportedly deployed.

“Areas where they want to use those cards have suddenly witnessed an increase in voting strength because they have collected the uncollected cards,” he said.

Fayose also questioned the credibility of elections in the country, insisting that electoral manipulation prevents voters from freely determining their leaders.

“No party can win election in Nigeria. No election can change this government because people who are meant to change the fortune of the country are being rigged out,” he alleged.

He linked the alleged electoral malpractice to broader governance and security challenges facing the country, including kidnapping and banditry.

Official figures released by INEC, however, indicate that 1,028,929 PVCs were collected out of 1,059,360 registered voters in Ekiti State ahead of the election, representing a PVC collection rate of 97.1 per cent. The figures show that approximately 30,431 PVCs remained uncollected.

The governorship election is being contested by 12 political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

As of the time of filing this report, INEC had not publicly responded to Fayose’s allegations.
