INEC opens mega PVC registration centre in Plateau

The Independent National Electoral Commission has launched a mega Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) centre in Jos, the Plateau State capital, as part of efforts to improve access to Permanent Voter Cards.

The registration hub, situated at Secretariat Junction under the bridge in Jos, began operations on Wednesday and is scheduled to run until March 30, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily.

Speaking during an inspection of the exercise, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Plateau State, Abubakar Sadiq, said the initiative was designed to tackle difficulties encountered during the first phase of the CVR exercise.

“The Commission reviewed reports from across the state, and key challenges identified included long distances to registration centres, overcrowding, insecurity, and difficult terrain,” Sadiq said.

He explained that, in response, INEC approved the rotation of registration activities across all 207 registration areas in the state’s 17 local government areas for a 50-day period during the second phase of the exercise.

“In view of these challenges, voter registration is now being rotated across the registration areas to make the process more accessible. This phase commenced in February and will run through April,” he added.

Sadiq further noted that Plateau State was selected as one of six states nationwide to host the special mega registration exercise, aimed at expanding voter participation.

“The mega CVR exercise is taking place here in Jos from March 25 to March 30, and we have deployed about 20 registration machines to ensure a smooth process,” he said.

He urged eligible residents to take advantage of the opportunity, particularly those unable to register during weekdays.

“We encourage citizens to utilise this window. The exercise will continue through the weekend to accommodate workers who may not be available during regular working days,” Sadiq stated.

INEC said the broader CVR exercise, which began earlier in the year, is expected to conclude in April, with the final phase taking place at local government offices across the state.
