A heavy security presence has been deployed around the Edo State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission as the collation of results from Saturday’s governorship election commences.
The Nigerian Army has set up roadblocks 500 meters away from the office, restricting vehicular movement on routes leading to the premises, according to Peoples Gazette.
Only accredited individuals are being granted access after undergoing thorough screening by security personnel.
The heightened security measures are aimed at ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for the collation process.
INEC had earlier announced that the collation of results from the 18 local governments would begin at 10 am on Sunday.
The election, contested by major parties including the APC, LP, and PDP, has drawn significant attention, and the security presence is a precautionary measure to prevent potential disruptions.
Security personnel from the Nigerian Police Force and Army are manning the checkpoints, ensuring only authorized individuals gain entry to the INEC office.
