Delta ‘yahoo boy’ kills girlfriend under influence of drugs

A 27-year-old man known simply as Obakpororo has confessed to killing the mother of his two children while under the influence of drugs, during a tragic altercation in Sapele, Delta State.

The suspect, who was paraded at the Delta State Police Command headquarters in Asaba, admitted to striking his girlfriend, Excellence, multiple times on the forehead with a hammer following a heated disagreement.

According to him, the fight erupted after he discovered that she was allegedly engaged in “hook-up” — a local slang for transactional sex.

Obakpororo, who described himself as a farmer and internet fraudster, revealed that he had consumed 200mg of tramadol and smoked a high-grade strain of cannabis known as “loud” before the incident occurred.

“She came to my place, she brought ‘Vegas’ and clothes that she wanted to use to change. We had an argument. She carried a knife, and I carried a hammer,” he recounted.

The suspect said he managed to disarm the victim and then hit her three times on the head.

“After hitting her, I didn’t know she would die. When I found out she was dead, I jumped from the storey building in an attempt to take my own life, but I survived,” he added.

Now in custody, Obakpororo used the opportunity to urge other young people to steer clear of drug abuse, acknowledging the tragic consequences of his actions.
