Afrobeat superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has shown his support for the Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations by betting $25,000 on Nigeria’s Group C opening match against Tanzania.
Sharing a photo of his Stake app betting slip on his X page, Davido wrote, “Let’s get this W Nigeria,” signaling his confidence in the national team.
The slip indicated a wager on both teams to score, with a potential payout of $96,564 (approximately N140 million).
This is not Davido’s first high-profile bet on the Super Eagles. Ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup play-off against Gabon, he placed a $10,000 (around N15 million) bet predicting a Nigerian win with both teams scoring, which could have returned over $50,000. Although Nigeria lost that match, Davido’s enthusiasm for the team remains strong.
The singer’s latest wager has sparked mixed reactions among fans.
Some suggested it could be part of his promotional role as a Stake ambassador, while others questioned whether he was prioritizing profit over national pride.
Nigeria will face Tanzania at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco on Tuesday, December 23, as the Super Eagles aim for a fourth AFCON title.
Ranked 38th in the world, Nigeria enters the match as favourites against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars, who are ranked 112th and have yet to defeat the Eagles in a competitive fixture.
Davido, however, remains confident, telling fans, “Let’s get this W Nigeria,” reaffirming his passion for the team and the tournament.
