Marc Cucurella has honoured a promise he made during the 2026 FIFA World Cup by getting a tattoo of Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente after La Roja were crowned world champions.
The newly signed Real Madrid defender had vowed early in the tournament that he would permanently ink De la Fuente on his body if Spain went on to win the title.
Spain fulfilled that dream with a 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19. Nine days after the triumph, Cucurella revealed the tattoo on Instagram, showing it positioned just above his left elbow.
The artwork depicts De la Fuente proudly holding the World Cup trophy, alongside the number 26 to mark the year Spain claimed football’s biggest prize.
Cucurella wrote, “A promise kept.”
The 27-year-old played every minute of Spain’s eight matches during the tournament, playing a key role in the country’s successful World Cup campaign.
This is not the first time Cucurella has followed through on a bold pledge. After Spain won the 2024 European Championship, he dyed his trademark long curly hair red as promised.
The left-back recently completed a move to Real Madrid, bringing an end to his four-year stay at Chelsea.
Reacting after Spain’s World Cup success, De la Fuente jokingly questioned whether his players had thought twice about their tattoo promises.
“I’ve already told them, ‘did you make a mistake?” he said. “They did, but they’ll enjoy it.
“I’m not so terribly ugly that they will need to put it somewhere nobody can see it. But it makes me laugh and I am proud they keep their promises.”
