The trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji, the driver involved in the road crash that injured former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, has been adjourned to June 2, 2026, by an Ogun State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Sagamu.

The case, heard at Magistrate’s Court 1 in Sagamu Local Government Area and presided over by Magistrate Olufunmilayo Somefun, was postponed to allow the prosecution to amend and file additional charges.

Mobolaji is facing a four-count charge bordering on dangerous and reckless driving, including causing death.

The charges also include negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, causing bodily harm, and damage to property under relevant provisions of the Federal Highway Act.

He is further accused of operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.

During the court session, the prosecution counsel, G.O. Ogunyomi, requested more time to properly file the revised charges.

The request was not opposed by the defence counsel, Abiodun Olalekan, prompting the magistrate to grant the adjournment.

Speaking after the proceedings, Olalekan said the adjournment would ensure fairness and justice for all parties involved.

The defendant was involved in a fatal accident on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The crash claimed the lives of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.

The incident occurred when a Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and his team collided with a stationary truck. While the boxer and the driver sustained minor injuries, both Ayodele and Ghami died from the impact.

Joshua was later discharged from hospital after doctors confirmed he was in stable condition and fit to continue recovery at home.

The deaths of the two team members drew widespread reactions within the international boxing community, where both men were regarded as key figures in Joshua’s camp.

Their remains were subsequently flown to the United Kingdom, where funeral prayers were held at the London Central Mosque on January 4, 2026.
