Juventus saw their Coppa Italia journey come to a disappointing end after suffering a 3–0 defeat to Atalanta in Bergamo, echoing a similar exit from the competition back in 2019.
Luciano Spalletti opted to match Atalanta’s 3-4-2-1 setup by switching to a three-man defence, with Gleison Bremer positioned between Federico Gatti and Lloyd Kelly.
In midfield, Manuel Locatelli partnered Khephren Thuram, while Pierre Kalulu and Andrea Cambiaso operated on the flanks. Francisco Conceicao and Weston McKennie played behind striker Jonathan David.
Juventus created the better chances early on, particularly through Conceicao. The winger was sent through by a long pass from McKennie but was denied by Marco Carnesecchi, who rushed off his line to make the save.
Moments later, Conceicao came close again, this time beating the goalkeeper, only to see his effort strike the woodwork.
Those missed chances soon proved costly. Bremer was adjudged to have handled Ederson’s cross inside the box, and Gianluca Scamacca stepped up to convert the resulting penalty, giving Atalanta the lead midway through the first half.
After the break, Juventus enjoyed more possession but struggled to turn it into clear scoring opportunities.
Atalanta, well organised at the back through the efforts of Honest Ohanor and Giorgio Scalvini, stayed patient and waited for their moment.
The hosts eventually struck twice more. A quick counterattack ended with Kamaldeen Sulemana calmly finishing to double the advantage, before Mario Pasalic capitalised on a poor pass from Bremer to fire home a deflected effort and seal a comprehensive victory.
Although the cup exit may not define Juventus’ season, supporters will be hoping for a strong response when they face Lazio on Sunday.
