Comoros head coach, Stefano Cusin, has declared that his team are aiming to emerge as the surprise package at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The island nation have been placed in Group A alongside tournament hosts Morocco, as well as Zambia and Mali, setting up a challenging group-stage battle.
Nicknamed Les Coelacantes, Comoros will be featuring at the Africa Cup of Nations for the third time in their history and will kick off their campaign against the Atlas Lions in the opening match of the tournament in Rabat on Sunday.
Despite facing strong opposition, Cusin insists his side are approaching the competition with ambition rather than caution, stressing that the team will take things one game at a time.
“We do not want to place limits on ourselves. Saying that our objective is simply to get through the group stage could create a sense of complacency,” Cusin told CAFonline.
”We will take the tournament one match at a time, with the ambition of going as far as possible.
“We have a young and promising team. Whatever the outcome, we will accept it, because everything is in God’s hands. We are approaching this Africa Cup of Nations with enthusiasm and with the determination to be the surprise team of the tournament.”
