Former Nigerian international goalkeeper, Alloy Agu, remains hopeful that the Home-Based Super Eagles can still progress from their group at the 2024 TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship, despite falling 1-0 to Senegal in their opening match.

Senegal clinched victory in the tightly contested Group D encounter thanks to a 75th-minute strike by Christian Gomis.

Reacting to the outcome, Agu expressed confidence in the team’s potential while speaking with Completesports.com.

“I believe the home-based Eagles tried their best to at least avoid defeat against Senegal, but it’s unfortunate that the team lost to a solitary goal.

“This is just the first game, and they have the second group game to make amends and bounce back to winning ways.

“I am still optimistic the team will qualify from their group,” he said.

Agu emphasized that the team can improve as the tournament progresses, urging fans not to lose faith after just one game.
