Boxing: Eubank Jr, Benn rematch to hold November

The fierce rivalry between British middleweights Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn is set to reignite this November, with their rematch scheduled to take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In April, Eubank Jr emerged victorious over Benn in an electrifying showdown at the same venue, securing a unanimous decision. The three judges all scored the bout 116-112 in his favor.

Despite the absence of a title, the clash drew massive attention, coming exactly 35 years after their legendary fathers, Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, first squared off in their own epic rivalry.

Calls for a second fight followed swiftly, both from fans and promoters. Initially planned for 20 September, the rematch hit a stumbling block amid speculation that Eubank wouldn’t be ready in time.

Now, a new date has been locked in: 15 November, as officially announced by organisers Ring Magazine, owned by Turki Alalshikh.

Promoter Eddie Hearn, chairman of Matchroom Boxing and Benn’s representative, confirmed the development via Instagram.

Eubank’s team, however, has remained silent on the announcement.

The rematch’s journey has been far from smooth. On 20 June, the bout was declared as happening in September. But by 17 July, doubts had crept in from Team Benn, suggesting Eubank was reluctant. Just three days later, Hearn pronounced the rematch “dead.”

Still, less than a month later, the fight is back on and it’s Alalshikh who appears to have pushed both camps back to the table.

His surprise June announcement caught everyone off guard and may have been the spark that reignited talks.

Eubank’s continued silence, first in June and now again, has fueled speculation that he was either unhappy with the September timing or looking to renegotiate terms, possibly concerning the initial fight-day rehydration clause.

Their first bout was a spectacle, “like capturing lightning in a bottle.” It was a dramatic, unexpected event full of memorable moments: Eubank Sr’s theatrical WWE-style entrance, a drained Eubank Jr still dominating the smaller Benn, and a tension-filled night that boxing fans won’t soon forget.

Whether the rematch will match the drama and excitement of the original remains to be seen. But come November, fans will find out.
